March News from the Priest

St. Richard’s focus for Lent
Dear Friends in Christ,
In our Lenten meditation, we can take a lead theme from Isaiah 43: 1-9, “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs fourth, do you not perceive it?” These words of the prophet raise our level of consciousness and present a challenge, the challenge of renewal. Renewal, by its very nature, involves change. For Christians, preparing for the feast of the Resurrection, we have the opportunity to experience the transformative love of Christ in newer and deeper ways if we are willing to risk our complacency. In some ways, as part of a changing world, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can explore the emergence of Christianity in ways we may find both challenging and fearful. Why? Because, if along with Isaiah “I am about to do a new thing…” I may have to risk the critique of others that can involve either acceptance or rejection of a “new” me. Is my ego strong enough for that kind of risk? Am I willing to accept the challenge – “Be perfect even as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Blessings,
Fr. Ron
